Rookie Jim Wright pitched a two-hitter and George Scott drove in three runs to pace the Red Sox to a 5-0 whitewashing of the Angels. Scott hit a homer in the second inning, scoring Carlton Fisk, who had doubled. Scott also drove in Fisk in the seventh with a sacrifice fly. Butch Hobson hit a leadoff home run in the eighth.

The other Sox tally came in the fourth on a single by Jim Rice and an RBI double by Carl Yastrzemski. Wright retired 16 batters in a row at one point in tossing his second shutout of the campaign. [The Sporting News]
