A one-out single by Lenny Randle with the bases loaded in the ninth inning gave the Mets a 3-2 triumph over the Padres. Randle's hit drove in Lee Mazzilli and pinch-runner Joel Youngblood.

Mazzilli opened the inning with a single and advanced to third when Gene Richards fumbled Tim Foli's single into short left. After Ron Hodges lined out, Ed Kranepool drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Randle then singled on the first pitch by Rollie Fingers. The Padres scored their runs in the sixth on singles by Gene Tenace, Dave Winfield and Oscar Gamble and a sacrifice fly by Bill Almon. [The Sporting News]
