Ending their six-game losing streak, the Cardinals posted a 4-2 triumph over the Phillies. The Cards opened the scoring in the second inning when Ted Simmons doubled, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jerry Morales.

The Redbirds added two tallies in the fourth when Garry Templeton walked, stole second and scored on Keith Hernandez' single. Hernandez then stole second and scored on a double by Ken Reitz.
