After spotting Kansas City two early runs, the Indians came back to beat the Royals, 4-2, snapping a three-game losing skein. A triple by Johnny Grubb drove home Rick Manning and Andre Thornton, both of whom had walked, to tie game in the fourth.

Jim Norris drew a walk to open the Tribe seventh and Duane Kuiper followed with a bunt single. Tom Veryzer and Paul Dade then bounced into consecutive fielder's choices to score Norris. Another fielder's choice grounder by Veryzer drove in the final Indian tally in the ninth after singles by Norris and Kuiper.
