Continuing to make mincemeat of Baltimore's vaunted pitching, the Blue Jays swept a twin bill from the Orioles, 6-2 and 9-8. The Jays pounded Jim Palmer for 11 hits in the opener. John Mayberry hit a solo homer in the second inning and the Jays went ahead to stay in the fourth on a single by Dave McKay, a sacrifice bunt and doubles by Alan Ashby and Bob Bailor. The Jays got three more in the fifth on a two-run triple by McKay and a double by Ashby.

The Jays took an early lead in the nightcap, but the Birds tied the contest, 8-8, in the eighth with a three-run homer by Billy Smith highlighting the rally. In the ninth, Otto Velez drew a one-out walk, McKay singled and Sam Ewing, hitting a measly .161, stroked a pinch-single to score Velez. [The Sporting News]
