Taking over second place from the Yankees in the A. L. East, the Brewers swept a doubleheader, 5-0 and 7-2, behind the stout pitching of Mike Caldwell and Jerry Augustine. The Brewers staked Caldwell to a quick lead in the opener on a sacrifice fly by Robin Yount in the second inning and an RBI single by Sixto Lezcano in the third.
