Held scoreless by Dan Schatzeder through the first six innings, the Phillies jumped on reliever Mike Garman for five runs in the seventh stanza and went on to defeatthe  Expos, 7-5. Bob Boone started the seventh-inning rally with a one-out single and was replaced by pinch-runner Bud Harrelson, who took second on a wild pitch and went to third on a single by Ted Sizemore.

A sacrifice fly by Tim McCarver tied the score at 1-1 before Garry Maddox made it 3-1 with a home run. Larry Bowa followed with a single, stole second, went to third on a throwing error by catcher Gary Carter and scored on a single by Greg Luzinski after Mike Schmidt walked.
