A homer by Mitchell Page in the seventh inning gave the A's a 2-1 victory over the Royals in a pitching duel between Matt Keough and Rich Gale. Keough scattered seven hits and could have posted a shutout except that his own error on a pickoff attempt and a wild pitch allowed the Royals to score an unearned run after Freddie Patek doubled in the second inning.

The A's collected only five hits off Gale but tied the score with a double by Dave Revering and a single by Jeff Newman in the fifth before Page decided the outcome with his homer in the seventh. [The Sporting News]
