A single by Clint Hurdle in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Royals to a 4-3 triumph over the Angels. George Brett led off the ninth with a double and Darrell Porter received an intentional walk.

A sacrifice by Hal McRae advanced the runners and Dave LaRoche came on to pitch to Hurdle, who bounced a hit to right through the drawn-in infield. The Royals had a 3-1 lead going into the top of ninth, but Don Baylor smacked a two-run homer to tie the contest. [The Sporting News]
