With scoring support from Dale Murphy, who batted in four runs with two homers, Phil Niekro posted his 10th victory as the Braves defeated the Phillies, 7-2. Murphy's first homer accounted for three of the Braves' five runs off Steve Carlton in the first inning. Murphy added a solo swat in the third and Jeff Burroughs hit for the circuit in the seventh.
