The Rangers knocked out Jim Palmer while scoring seven runs in the fifth inning and posted an 11-1 victory in the second game of a twi-night doubleheader after the Orioles won the first game, 8-7, thanks to two errors by Jim Mason on one play. The Orioles had a two-run homer by Pat Kelly in the lidlifter and were leading, 7-4, until the Rangers rallied to tie the score in the sixth with a double by Kurt Bevacqua, single by Bump Wills, a walk and singles by Juan Beniquez and Jim Sundberg. In the Orioles' seventh, Larry Harlow walked with one out and took second on an infield out by Rich Dauer. Ken Singleton then grounded to Mason, who booted the ball and made a wild throw to pthe late, allowing Harlow to score the deciding run.
