Driving in three runs, Andre Thornton sparked the Indians to a 5-2 triumph over the Mariners. The first Indian run came in the third inning on a bases-loaded walk to Thornton. A sacrifice fly by Craig Reynolds tied it for the Mariners in the bottom of that frame.

The Indians went ahead to stay in the fourth when Ted Cox singled, moved to third on a single by Duane Kuiper and scored on a balk by Jim Colborn. Kuiper, who took third on the balk, scored on a groundnut by Tom Veryzer. A two-run homer by Thornton in the eighth stanza put the game on ice for the Tribe. [The Sporting News]
