RBI singles by pinch-hitter Tony Scott and George Hendrick lifted the Cardinals to a 3-2 triumph over the Padres. The Padres had taken a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Tucker Ashford and Gene Richards' forceout.

With Rollie Fingers on mound for the Padres in the bottom of the frame, Garry Templeton began the Redbird rally with a one-out single. Jerry Mumphrey drew a base on balls and the single by Scott scored Templeton. The single by Hendrick then plated Mumphrey with the winning run. [The Sporting News]
