Getting solid hitting and effective pitching, the Phillies swept a twin bill from the Astros, 6-1 and 8-2. In the first game, Mike Schmidt hit the home run with a mate aboard to key a four-run third inning. A walk to Greg Luzinski, double by Richie Hebner and single by Garry Maddox accounted for two more tallies.

The first Phillie run in the second game came in the third inning on a walk to Bud Harrelson and double by Larry Bowa. The Phils made it 3-0 in the fourth frame on a solo homer by Luzinski and squeeze bunt by Harrelson. Larry Christenson held the Astros hitless until Terry Puhl doubled with two out in the sixth.
