Getting the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk, the Tigers went on to defeat the Angels, 7-3. Losing reliever Ken Brett walked home the tie-breaking tally in the fifth inning to give the Tigers a 4-3 lead.

One inning later, John Wockenfuss increased the margin to 6-3 with a home run, which came after Brett hit Tim Corcoran with a pitch. The first three Tiger runs came in the opening frame on a round-tripper by Steve Kemp. [The Sporting News]
