A barrage of 21 hits enabled the Brewers to climb within five games of the division-leading Red Sox as they clobbered the Rangers, 17-8, for Texas' sixth consecutive loss. Sal Bando, who drove in five runs and scored four, singled in the second ahead of Gorman Thomas' 20th home run.

The Brewers added six more in the third, Ben Oglivie driving in two with a single and Tony Muser and Bando each delivering two with doubles. Bando hit a three-run round-tripper in the sixth after a single by Hisle and walk to Oglivie. Hisle contributed his 23rd homer to drive in three runs in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
