A sacrifice fly by Gene Richards broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning and sent the Padres to a 6-3 victory over the Pirates, extending the Bucs' losing streak to five games. Bill Almon drew a one-out walk in the seventh and Grant Jackson replaced Ed Whitson on the mound for the Pirates.

A single by pinch-hitter Jerry Turner moved Almon to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly by Richards. Turner took second on the throw to the plate and scored on a single by Ozzie Smith. Ed Ott, Phil Garner and Bill Robinson homered for the Bucs. [The Sporting News]
