. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Follwing an announcement earlier in the day that Gene Mauch's contract had been extended for three years through 1981, the Twins presented their manager with a victory when Willie Norwood smashed a two-run homer with two out in the 10th inning to beat the Yankees, 7-5.

The Twins had a homer by Roy Smalley in the first inning and held a 5-3 lead until the eighth when Lou Piniella walked, Reggie Jackson singled and Graig Nettles tied the score with a double. In the Twins 10th, Dan Ford led off with a double but was thrown out at third on an attempted sacrifice by Mike Cubbage. Butch Wynegar then went out before Norwood came to the plate and hit his homer off Sparky Lyle. [The Sporting News]
