Pete Rose extended his consecutive-game hitting streak to 43 as the Reds bested the Phillies, 5-3. The third baseman lashed a single to left in the fifth and a single to center in the sixth. A homer by George Foster, triple by Dave Concepcion and double by Cesar Geronimo gave the Reds a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Rose's fifth-inning single touched off the two-run frame. One run scored on a throwing error by Mike Schmidt and the other on a sacrifice fly by Dan Driessen. Driessen clubbed a homer in the seventh to give the Reds their final tally. [The Sporting News]
