Tying the club mark for consecutive victories, the Padres won their sixth straight game, 3-2, over the cellar-dwelling Cardinals. The Cards took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, but the Padres tied the contest in the bottom of the frame on a homer by Oscar Gamble. Derrel Thomas opened the Padres' seventh with a walk and after Fernando Gonzalez sacrificed, Buddy Schultz relieved Card starter Bob Forsch. Tucker Ashford received an intentional base on balls and Gene Richards followed with a double to right to plate the winning marker.
