The White Sox delivered a double jolt to the Rangers, sweeping a twin bill, 5-4 and 4-2. The White Sox trailed, 4-2, going into the bottom of the eighth of the first game when the winning rally began with a one-out single by Eric Soderholm. Ralph Garr drew a walk and Reggie Cleveland replaced Jim Umbarger on the hill for Texas. Tom Spencer struck out, but Claudell Washington got an infield hit to load the sacks. Lamar Johnson then lined a single into short center field, scoring two runs, and when Juan Beniquez bobbled the ball for an error, Washington came home with the winning run.

In the second game, the first two White Sox runs came in the fourth on a double by Garr, triple by Bob Molinaro and sacrifice fly by Washington. In the next inning, Don Kessinger drew a leadoff walk and came home two outs later on a triple by Garr.
