A pinch-single by Jim Norris in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Indians to a 4-3 come-from-behind triumph over the Royals. Trailing, 3-2, the Tribe began the winning rally with a two-base hit by Tom Veryzer, who was thrown out at third on an attempted sacrifice bunt by Rick Manning.

Royal starter Larry Gura was pulled in favor of Al Hrabosky, who walked Johnny Grubb. That brought on Doug Bird, who was greeted with a single by Andre Thornton that tied the score.
