Completing the three-game series sweep, the Padres edged the Dodgers, 2-1, for their ninth straight victory. Successive singles by Ozzie Smith, Derrel Thomas and Dave Winfield loaded the bases with one out in the first inning. One out later, Gene Tenace lined a single to left to drive in Smith and Thomas. Rollie Fingers came on in the eighth inning to snuff out a Dodger rally and record his 25th save.
