Doug DeCinces, who was the A. L.'s Player of the Month in July as slugging star for Orioles, smashed a two-run homer in the seventh inning to beat the Yankees, 2-1, and hand Ron Guidry his second defeat of the season against 15 victories. The Yankees counted their run off Mike Flanagan in the third on singles by Bucky Dent and Mickey Rivers, a wild pitch and an infield out by Willie Randolph, but an error then helped beat Guidry when Eddie Murray was safe on a wild throw by Dent and DeCinces hit for the circuit.
