Pitching his 18th complete game of the season, Mike Caldwell hurled the Brewers to an 8-1 triumph over the Blue Jays in the first game of a twin bill. The Brewers completed the sweep by edging the Jays in the second game, 3-2. In the opener, the Brewers' first two runs came in the third inning on an RBI double by Larry Hisle and RBI single by Sal Bando. They added another pair in the fourth on consecutive singles by Jim Gantner, Charlie Moore and Robin Yount and a throwing error by Jays' right fielder Bob Bailor.

The Brewers trailed, 1-0, going into the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap when Sixto Lezcano got a leadoff single. Pinch-runner Gorman Thomas scored the tying run on a throwing error by pitcher Balor Moore and a single by Yount.
