Handed a two-run lead in the first inning, Francisco Barrios turned in his first complete game since June 16 and pitched the White Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Indians. Bob Molinaro doubled on Mike Paxton's first pitch of the game, took third after a flyout and scored on a wild pitch.

With two away, Lamar Johnson walked, stole second and when no one covered the bag on catcher Gary Alexander's throw, Johnson continued to third. Ralph Garr then singled to drive in what proved to be the winning run.
