Capitalizing on an error by Bill Russell, the Mets scored four runs in the sixth inning and defeated the Dodgers, 8-4. With the game tied, 3-3, John Stearns opened the Mets' sixth with a double off Don Sutton, who proceeded to load the bases by walking Bruce Boisclair and Doug Flynn with one out.

Ron Hodges hit a pop fly and when Russell dropped the ball in short left field, Stearns scored. Sutton then walked himself out of the game, passing Lee Mazzilli to force in Boisclair. Charlie Hough then took over and retired Tim Foli, but Steve Henderson singled to drive in two runs. [The Sporting News]
