Randy Jones pitched the first seven innings and Rollie Fingers finished, picking up his 28th save, as the Padres defeated the Expos, 3-2. The Expos' runs came off Jones in the second and were unearned on wild throws by Fernando Gonzalez and Ozzie Smith.

The Padres' tying tallies in the fifth also were tainted, scoring on an error by Larry Parrish, a triple by Smith and single by Derrel Thomas. The Padres then counted the only earned run of the game in the sixth and Jones supplied it himself with a single after a pass to Gene Tenace and single by Gonzalez. [The Sporting News]
