Pinch-hitter Jerry Turner doubled home Fernando Gonzalez with the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and Gene Tenace added a two-run homer to give the Padres a 7-3 victory over the Phillies. With two out in the eighth, Gonzalez stroked his fourth single of the game and scored on Turner's double to right-center.

The Padres added another tally in that inning when Ozzie Smith drew a bases-loaded walk. Tenace's homer came after a single by Oscar Gamble in the ninth. [The Sporting News]
