A two-out single by Butch Hobson capped a two-run, 12th inning rally to lift the Red Sox to a 4-3 victory over the Angels, completing the three-game series sweep. After Rick Miller doubled and Don Baylor singled to put the Angels ahead, 3-2, in the top of the 12th, the Red Sox came back in the bottom of the frame.

Carl Yastrzemski led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Jerry Remy. A flyout by Carlton Fisk, walk to Fred Lynn and flyout by Dwight Evans produced two outs and left runners on first and second. George Scott then hit a grounder to third baseman Carney Lansford, who threw wildly to first, pulling Joe Rudi off the bag as Remy dashed home. Hobson followed with his game-winning hit to center.
