Getting three runs in the bottom of ninth, the Red Sox captured a wild contest from the Mariners, 10-9. The Sox trailed, 9-7, going into the final frame, when Fred Lynn stroked a leadoff single. Garry Hancock followed with a single and George Scott attempted a sacrifice bunt.

First baseman Dan Meyer fielded the ball but threw wildly into the dugout, allowing Lynn to score and Hancock and Scott to wind up at third and second, respectively. Butch Hobson then lined a two-base hit off the center field wall to win the game for the Bosox. [The Sporting News]
