Juan Beniquez led off with a single and after a sacrifice bunt, Al Oliver was walked intentionally. Beniquez and Oliver executed a double steal while Bobby Bonds was striking out. Richie Zisk then hit a single to score both runners and send Nolan Ryan to the showers. Dyar Miller relieved and walked Jim Sundberg before Toby Harrah cracked a three-run homer to cap the inning.

In the nightcap, Harrah singled home two runs when the Rangers scored three times in the opening inning. In the third frame, the Rangers capitalized on five walks, a two-run double by John Ellis, single by Bonds and error by third baseman Carney Lansford to score five runs. [The Sporting News]
