After batting in the Cubs' first two runs with a single in the third inning, Rodney Scott accounted for two more with a double in the 10th to beat the Expos, 4-2. Walks to Dave Rader and Ivan DeJesus and a sacrifice by Ray Burris preceded Scott's single in the third.

The Expos rallied to tie the score in the ninth, counting their pair on a double by Chris Speier and singles by Dave Cash, Del Unser and Tony Perez. In the 10th, DeJesus singled and stole second.
