Moving closer to the championship in the West division, the Royals blanked the Angels, 5-0, behind the five-hit pitching of Dennis Leonard. Frank White and George Brett hit back-to-back homers in the third inning and the Royals added another pair of runs in the fifth frame on a walk to Brett and consecutive doubles by Hal McRae and Amos Otis.
