. . . where the 1970s live forever!

After the Blue Jays won the opening game of the twin bill, 8-1, the Yankees came back to capture the nightcap, 3-2, and increase their lead in the East division to two full games over the Red Sox. In the lidlifter, Yankee ace Ron Guidry was shelled from the parapet, lasting only 1 2/3 innings, during which time he was thumped for five runs and six hits. The Jays' attack was climaxed by back-to-back triples by Rick Bosetti and Bob Bailor in the second inning.

The Yankees trailed in the second contest 2-0, going into the ninth inning, but scored three times to escape with a victory. A single by Willie Randolph began the rally and after Reggie Jackson drew walk, Blue Jay starter Tom Underwood was replaced by Victor Cruz. The reliever was ineffective, yielding consecutive RBI singles by Lou Piniella, Chris Chambliss and Graig Nettles. [The Sporting News]
