. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Taking up where he left off last season, Jim Rice blasted a three-run homer in the third inning to propel the Red Sox to a 7-1 opening-game victory over the Indians. Dwight Evans and Fred Lynn contributed solo shots. Rice's round-tripper was preceded by a single by Jerry Remy and walk to Lynn. Dennis Eckersley pitched seven innings of two-hit ball and was relieved by Dick Drago after tiring. [The Sporting News]
