Only 10,387 were in the stands when the A's opened their season with a 5-3 loss to the Twins. Last year's opener in Oakland drew 17,283. The Twins combined singles by Mike Cubbage and Ron Jackson, a double by Glenn Adams and a single by Butch Wynegar for three runs in the sixth inning and added the deciding pair in the seventh on a groundout by Cubbage and a single by Roy Smalley.
