A passed ball provided the margin of victory as the Expos edged the Pirates. 5-4. Tony Solaita walked to lead off the Montreal eighth and was replaced by pinch-runner Tommy Hutton, who went to third on a single by Gary Carter and scored on a passed ball by catcher Ed Ott.

Andre Dawson drove in three runs for the Expos with a homer and single. His circuit clout with a man on base was the highlight of a three-run seventh inning. The third run of that frame came when Pirate center fielder Omar Moreno misplayed a single by Warren Cromartie, allowing Rodney Scott, who had previously singled, to score. [The Sporting News]
