A homer by Mike Schmidt in the seventh inning snapped a 4-4 tie and enabled the Phillies to prevail over the Pirates, 5-4. The Pirates had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Phils tied the contest on singles by Bake McBride and Larry Bowa, a double steal, a walk to Greg Luzinski, sacrifice fly by Schmidt and single by Garry Maddox.
