A two-run pinch-single by Jim Dwyer -- the first RBIs by a Boston pinch-hitter since 1977 -- proved decisive as the Red Sox outlasted the Brewers, 12-10. The score was 10-10 going into the ninth inning when the Bosox loaded the bases on a walk to Jim Rice, single by Carl Yastrzemski and bunt single by George Scott. Jack Brohamer bounced into a double play, outs being made at the plate and first base, and Dwight Evans was given an intentional walk to reload the sacks. Dwyer then singled, scoring Yastrzemski and Scott.

Earlier in the game, Yastrzemski hit his seventh career grand slam and a pair of doubles. The Brewers had tied the contest in the bottom of the eighth on a solo homer by Sal Bando. [The Sporting News]
