Two runs in the ninth inning enabled the Yankees to edge the White Sox, 6-5. The score was 4-4 entering the final frame when the rally started with a one-out single by Chris Chambliss. One out later, a double by Mickey Rivers scored Chambliss.

Willie Randolph then drove in Rivers with a bloop single to right. The White Sox tallied once in the bottom of the frame, but Rich Gossage came on to choke off the comeback. [The Sporting News]
