. . . where the 1970s live forever!

Erupting for five runs in the 10th inning, the Cardinals prevailed, 9-4, over the Pirates. The winning rally began with a one-out single by Mike Dimmel, his first major league hit.

A single by Mike Phillips moved Dimmel to third and the tie-breaking run scored when left fielder Bill Robinson dropped a fly ball off the bat of Bernie Carbo. Singles by Garry Templeton and Tony Scott produced another run before Keith Hernandez clinched the game with a bases-loaded double and three RBIs. [The Sporting News]
