Chuck Rainey permitted just four hits over 7 2/3 innings in his first major league start and was the winner as the Red Sox defeated the Brewers, 5-3. Four unearned runs in the fifth inning proved decisive.

With two out and Rick Burleson on third, Jim Rice reached first and Burleson scored on a throwing error by Robin Yount. Carl Yastrzemski drew a base on balls and George Scott cracked a two-bagger to score Rice. Yastrzemski and Scott then scored on a single by Jack Brohamer. [The Sporting News]
