Nino Espinosa gained his second victory of the season, both at the expense of his former teammates, when the Phillies defeated the Mets, 3-0. Espinosa pitched 7 1/3 innings before needing help from Tug McGraw, who completed the shutout.

The Phillies, in gaining their sixth straight victory, scored in the first on walks to Bake McBride and Pete Rose and a single by Mike Schmidt. Other tallies followed in the fourth on a single by Schmidt, triple by Garry Maddox and single by Manny Trillo. [The Sporting News]
