Nolan Ryan pitched a no-hitter for 7 1/3 innings before being foiled in his bid for the fifth gem of his career but emerged with an easy 13-1 victory over the A's as the Angels extended their winning streak to 10 games. Mitchell Page ruined Ryan's no-hitter with a single. One out later, Ryan walked Dwayne Murphy and left the game, complaining of a groin pull.

Jim Barr relieved and yielded a run-scoring single by Wayne Gross for the A's only other hit. Ryan struck out 12, marking the 121st time in his career that the speedballer had struck out 10 or more batters. The Angels opened their attack with a three-run homer by Joe Rudi in the third inning and then exploded for nine runs in the fifth, including a grand slam by Don Baylor. [The Sporting News]
