Jose Cruz singled with the bases loaded in the 10th inning, scoring Terry Puhl, to give the Astros a 5-4 victory over the Pirates. Pinch-hitter Denny Walling led off with a single and Puhl was safe on an error by Dale Berra in handling his bunt. Craig Reynolds also bunted and all hands were safe when Berra threw late to Tim Foli, covering third, in an attempt to nail Walling.

Cesar Cedeno forced Walling at the plate before Cruz came up and rapped his winning single. The Pirates' scoring included a two-run homer by John Milner and solo shot by Willie Stargell, who also accounted for another RBI with a single. [The Sporting News]
