Although knocked out in the seventh inning, Jerry Koosman received credit for his third straight victory since coming to his home state of Minnesota when the Twins defeated the Mariners, 6-5. Mike Marshall pitched the last two innings and picked up his fourth save.

The Twins broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the second inning on a homer by Ken Landreaux, singles by John Castino and Roy Smalley around an infield out, and a triple by Ron Jackson. Smalley then provided the deciding blow, hitting a homer in the fourth inning to score behind Castino, who had doubled. [The Sporting News]
