Helped by four double plays, Mike Torrez overcame early wildness and pitched the Red Sox to a 6-0 victory over the Royals. Rick Burleson homered in the first inning and the Red Sox added two runs in the fourth on a double by Fred Lynn, walk to Jim Rice, an infield out and a single by George Scott. Rice drove in a run with a double and Scott plated a pair with a single in the fifth.
