John Stearns followed Youngblood's blast with a double, moved to third on a throwing error by left fielder Del Unser and scored on a single by Gil Flores. Flores advanced to second on a sacrifice and tallied on a single by Frank Taveras. After taking second on the throw to the plate, Taveras scored the fourth run of the inning when first baseman Pete Rose threw wildly after catching a line drive off the bat of Richie Hebner.
