Combining on a three-hitter, Doyle Alexander and Jim Kern hurled the Rangers to a 5-0 blanking of the Blue Jays. Texas got three runs in their first turn at bat. Billy Sample walked with one out and Al Oliver stroked a single.

Blue Jay second baseman Dave McKay booted a potential double-play grounder by Buddy Bell, allowing Sample to score from third. A single by Richie Zisk plated Oliver and a sacrifice fly by Oscar Gamble drove home Bell. [The Sporting News]
